How to Install Metal Furring
- Double check everything
Metal furring installation is a work where there is no room for error. Note that not only the work will be permanent, but it is also quite costly to replace in case something goes wrong.
As such, you want to double-check everything, especially the measurements.
If the pieces of furring you have bought are extra-long and the measurements are not certain or precise, cut them longer than is expected as it is better to trim than to extend.
- Find out the locations of the ceiling joists, mark the locations, and remember them
To install metal furring, you need to know where the ceiling joists are.
Once you know their locations, mark the locations where the metal furring system will be attached. Since the furring will be secured to the joists with screws, you want to get it right the first time.
- Attach the furring strips
The next step is to attach the metal furring strips accordingly. Create the “net” system with the tiles that will be installed in mind.
Make sure that the flanges line up perfectly with the side of every tile. To make sure of this, hold up a tile against the metal furring that will be installed from time to time.
